Arts and Cultural Festival
Numa, Westfield’s arts and cultural festival promises a day filled with performing and visual arts, food and family fun from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., Saturday, September 19, 2009 at Penn and Union streets in downtown Westfield.

Live musical entertainment kicks off at 10 a.m. with the jazz of Dave Lowe on the main stage, followed by Gene Deer’s blues at the lunch hour, and the 80s and 90s cover band, The Mulligans, at 4 p.m. The evening’s headline act is the Aberdeen Project, who wowed the crowd last year. They take the stage at 7:30 and close out the festival at 10 p.m.

New this year is a second stage in the Creative Kids area, where Will Gould and Dave Hepler, musical storytellers from Young Audiences, entertain. Gould and Hepler are popular with school-age kids and have performed in many Westfield-Washington elementary schools. The Young Magician’s Association dazzles Numa’s youngest patrons with slight of hand magic. The Westfield Public Library’s Miss Vicky and her puppet friends also provide some late summer fun.

Numa’s community canvas project promotes the community’s arts and culture and is located under the Creative Kids tent. Find familiar faces and fun from last year’s event like Mad Science, Brian Pulson’s ingenious musical instruments, wood puzzle crafts, artistic airbrush face painting and balloon animals.

Three times during the day, Brazilian-born aero acrobat, Elaine Delmoro, brings the magic of the circus and the art of aerial fabric performance to Numa. The act is a professionally choreographed dance some 20 feet in the air with drops, twists and tumbles. Before coming to the United States, Delmoro taught aerial fabric and trapeze to children and adults in a circus school in Brazil.

Painters, potters, sculptors and jewelers set up under the shade trees off Union Street to display their finest watercolor, oil and acrylic paintings, hand-thrown and fired clay creations, whimsical metal garden art, and exquisitely beaded and wired jewelry.

Fabulous food and beverages are available all weekend thanks to the following local restaurants:
  • DeLullo's Italian Bistro
  • B.D. Mongolian BBQ
  • Kelties
  • Cancun
  • Maggie Moo
  • Buffalo Wild Wings
  • Pat-a-Cakes and Cookies too
  • Buckey's
  • Glodo's Original Kettle Korn
  • Jan's Village Pizza
Take your food to go and meander through a collection of groovy classic car. Don’t forget to vote for your favorite! Take some time to catch up with family and friends.

Numa is located along Union Street, north of Indiana Highway 32 to Penn Street, just west of Westfield City Hall. Parking is plentiful and free. Early-bird tickets are available for $4 and $10 “show your Numa support” buttons are for sale each Friday from 4-8 p.m. at the Westfield Market on Indiana 32 across from Gallery One36. These buttons include one early-bird admission to Numa and a small, tax-deductible donation. At the gate tickets are $5. Children 12 and under are free.
