Bringing back a bit of wintertime nostalgia, the Downtown Westfield Neighborhood Association offers free, community ice-skating in the city's downtown every Saturday from 4-8 p.m., January through February.
The condition of the ice for skating is entirely dependent upon "Mother Nature," but on those cold Saturdays the public is invited to bring along their skates for winter fun on the ice.
Local Westfield High School Girl Scout Troop 731, in cooperation with DWNA, is organizing these events and offer refreshments for sale at a nominal cost. Hot chocolate, marshmallows for roasting over an open fire, and other goodies are available.
In an effort to provide free loaner skates for future events, Troop 731 is collecting used ice skates. The scouts also seek adult volunteers to chaperone events, donations of straw bales, marshmallows, graham crackers, as well as the services of local DJ to provide music.
